Chicago PD season 9: Will Jon Seda return as Antonio Dawson?

When it was first announced Jon Seda would be leaving Chicago PD at the end of the show’s sixth season, fans were understandably shocked.

Although he had temporarily left Chicago PD once before to join the cast of fellow One Chicago drama Chicago JusticeSeda returned shortly after Justice‘s surprise cancellation and it seemed as though he would remain a central member of the show for years to come.

Having first originated the role of Detective Antonio Dawson on Chicago Fire, Seda was one of the longest-tenured actors in the One Chicago franchise and the only actor in the franchise who was part of the core cast of three of the series at various points in time.

Despite being a fan favorite, the writers ultimately felt the character had reached his peak and decided to write Antonio off the show for creative reasons. His last appearance would ultimately come in the season 6 finale, “Reckoning,” and we would later discover in the season 7 premiere that Antonio has decided to resign from his role on the Intelligence team and move to Puerto Rico to be closer to family as he recovered from the drug addiction.

Ever since Jon Seda left Chicago PD, fans have been anxious for his return as Antonio Dawson as the writers seemed to leave the door open for a possible return. It also helps that there was no bad blood between Seda or the producers on the show, with Seda departing on good terms rather than leaving the show on a negative note.

So what exactly are the odds of Seda returning as Antonio Dawson in the upcoming ninth season of Chicago PD?

Will Jon Seda be in Chicago PD season 9?

Although Seda departed the show on positive terms and has seemed open to the idea of returning to the One Chicago franchise should the timing work out, there do not appear to be any plans for Seda or his character Antonio to appear in the ninth season of Chicago PD.

While we can’t rule a possible cameo out, it seems highly unlikely Seda would be able to appear in the upcoming season as he’s set to star as a series regular in a new fall drama for NBC. Further complicating matters is the fact that Seda’s new series is reported to be filming in Australia, which isn’t exactly a short distance away from Chicago where PD films.

Jon Seda new show

Jon Seda might not be returning to Chicago PD this fall, but he will be making his way back to NBC!

As previously reported, Seda has been cast as a series regular in NBC’s newest original drama La Brea which premieres Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 9/8c on NBC. In the series, Seda will play Dr. Sam Velez, the father of a teenage daughter who is described as carrying himself as an Army general.
