Chicago Fire season 11: Will Jon Ecker return as Greg Grainger?

From the moment Chicago Fire first introduced Jon Ecker’s Lieutenant Greg Grainger, fans immediately fell in love with the charming character who became a standout of the season.

Introduced in the fourth episode of season 9, “Funny What Things Remind Us,” it was clear Grainger had been introduced as a possible love interest for Brett (Kara Killmer). As expected, Grainger’s relationship with Brett didn’t exactly go anywhere as her heart was clearly never entirely in the relationship, and the two parted ways in episode 13, “Don’t Hang Up.”

While we expected their relationship would fizzle out and wouldn’t go anywhere given the Brettsey build-up, what we didn’t expect was to fall in love with his character so quickly despite Grainger being a clear obstacle in the path of Brettsey.

Grainger was just such an all-around great guy and a loveable character who we couldn’t help but like and want to see more of.

Will Jon Ecker be in Chicago Fire season 11? 

Although his guest arc on Chicago Fire came a close with the thirteenth episode of season 9, showrunner Derek Haas was also a fan of both the actor and his character which is a good sign for fans. In fact, Haas has mentioned that he’d be open to Grainger’s return.

“I really like him,” showrunner Haas told TVLine. “I would definitely want to see him again.”

Because his character was very much still alive and located within the city of Chicago when we last saw him, bringing Grainger back wouldn’t be a stretch and he’d definitely make for a great addition to 51 should they end up needing a floater or new addition next season.

While there do not appear to be any plans for Ecker to return as Grainger just yet, the fan interest coupled with Haas’ shared love for the character is definitely a positive sign that we could perhaps see him back in the Windy City some day.
