When Chicago Med returns this September, NBC’s long-running medical drama will welcome a pair of new faces with the arrival of new cast members Kristen Hager and Guy Lockard.

As previously reported, Hager will be joining the cast as emergency room attending physician Dr. Stevie Hammer. Described as being both brilliant and scrappy, we imagine Stevie will create some big waves upon her arrival and be a key asset to the ED after the departure of Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey Devito).

Lockard, meanwhile, will be playing Dr. Dylan Scott, who has been described as a former Chicago police officer turned doctor. His background with the Chicago PD already has fans questioning whether he might share history with any members of the Intelligence Unit, which we imagine the writers will clue us in on perhaps as early as in this year’s crossover event.

While we’ll have to wait to see whether Lockard’s character shares any connection to anyone from the Chicago PD cast, it turns out the actor behind the character actually shares a surprising connection to another show in the franchise: Chicago Fire!

Guy Lockard might be new to the Chicago Med cast; however, he’s far from new to the franchise in sharing an interesting connection to Chicago Fire.

Before joining the cast of Chicago Med, Lockard guest-starred in Chicago Fire season 8, episode 19, “Light Things Up.” In the episode, Lockard appeared as Lewis, a frustrated father who chained himself to 51’s engines in staging a protest in the hopes of finally creating change and catching the attention of CFD brass.

Clearly the creative team liked what they saw from Lockard’s performance and it’s going to be fun to see if the writer’s find any way to subtly make a nod to his guest spot.

Lockard is now the second Chicago Med series regular to have previously played another character within the One Chicago franchise — well, sort of.

As fans will recall, S. Epatha Merkerson previously starred as Lieutenant Anita Van Buren in Law & Order for 20 seasons before joining the cast of Chicago Med as Dr. Sharon Goodwin.

Given NBC has established that the Law & Order franchise is set within the same universe as the One Chicago franchise, this means Merkerson’s Law & Order character is technically from the shared universe meaning Merkerson has, in theory, played two characters in the franchise.
