Law and Order: Organized Crime season 2 to bring back iconic SVU star

When Law and Order: Organized Crime season 2 debuts this fall, fans are in for quite a treat as it seems NBC has arranged for a beloved member of the Law and Order: Special Victims Unit cast to return in a guest-starring role!

13 years after making her debut in Law and Order: SVU‘s second season, Ellen Burstyn will be reprising her role as Bernadette Stabler, the mother of Chris Meloni’s character Elliot Stabler, in the upcoming second season.

The details surrounding Burstyn’s return remain unclear, but it has been confirmed her return will occur this fall making it likely she’ll appear in one of the season’s earlier episodes. Also unknown is whether this will once again appear for one role or whether she’ll appear in a larger capacity.

One thing that will be interesting is to see whether Burstyn will be able to pick up another Emmy for her role, as she previously took home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series back in 2009.

Law and Order: Organized Crime season 2 cast

In addition to the return of Ellen Burstyn as Bernadette Stabler, the cast of Law and Order: Organized Crime season 2 is shaping up to be quite impressive!

As expected, Meloni will be returning as Elliot Stabler as will fellow season 1 cast members Danielle Moné Truitt (Sergeant Ayanna Bel), Tamara Taylor (Professor Angela Wheatley) and Ainsley Seiger (Jet Slootmaekers).

Also returning for season 2 is Dylan McDermott, who has inked a new deal with NBC to return as the villainous Richard Wheatle for season 2 in a recurring role.

The season will also introduce viewers to a few new characters with the addition of Ron Cephas Jones as European gangster Albi Briscu and Vinnie Jones as Congressman Leon Kilbride. (h/t Deadline)
