NBC has not yet released any new footage or promotional materials for Chicago Med season 7, but a newly released image from the set seems to have confirmed a major rumor regarding the fate of one of Med’s most beloved doctors!

** Warning: Possible Chicago Med season 7 spoilers ahead **

In the Chicago Med season 6 finale, hospital administrator Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) we left with no choice but to fire Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) for compromising the clinical trial resulting in the company behind the trial cutting its connections with Med as a direct result of “his” actions.

Our last shot of Will in season 6 was of the actor packing up his things, which left fans to wonder whether Will was being written off due to the possible departure of Nick Gehlfuss. Questions over Will’s fate have kept fans talking all offseason, but a new photo snapped on-set seems to confirm Will won’t be going anywhere nor will he be walking away from Med.

Will Nick Gehlfuss return for Chicago Med season 7?

While the series will be saying goodbye to fellow original cast members Yaya DaCosta and Torrey DeVitto, Nick Gehlfuss inked a new deal during the offseason which was our first hint that Will Halstead would indeed be sticking around in some capacity. What remained unclear, though, was whether Will’s firing would stick or if he’d scrub back in as part of the ED team again as the season began.

Although it remains unclear how the writers will address Will’s return, a new photo from the set confirmed Will won’t be going anywhere — which is welcome news for fans of the beloved character.

In the new photo —  which you can check out here — Gehlfuss poses alongside his new co-star Guy Lockard as well as frequent scene partner Courtney Rioux, rocking his character’s signature red scrubs.

Will Goodwin unfire Will on Chicago Med?

Considering Gelhfuss has been photographed rocking his character’s signature scrubs, it appears Will Hallstead will remain on Med’s payroll and will not be fired after all.

Given Natalie (DeVitto) caught Goodwin at the end of the season 6 finale to reveal the truth about her role in the drug trial ordeal, it seems Natalie’s efforts to clear Will’s name will pay off. Since we know Will will be back in action as part of the Med staff in season 7, it seems safe to say Goodwin will unfire Will and perhaps look to take some sort of lesser action for his role in the situation such as a suspension.
