2. Will and Jay Halstead

It is impossible to find a more formidable set of siblings than the Halstead brothers. They’re two men working equally hard to save lives in different parts of the process—one a doctor at Chicago Med, the other a detective with the Intelligence Unit.

In Chicago PD we meet Jay (Jesse Lee Soffer). A skilled marksman and Army veteran, he’d only been in Intelligence for about a month when the show started, and that didn’t stop him from pushing hard to get cases closed and justice is done. Conversely in Chicago PD season 2, we see Jay has a soft side when it comes to his brother Will (Nick Gehlfuss).

Will returns to Chicago after being fired from his job in New York and gets into a bar fight within hours of his arrival in the Windy City. Despite him turning up seemingly out of the blue and then immediately becoming a problem, Jay still looks out for Will and allows him to stay so he can sort his stuff out. And we know how that ends up: with him joining the staff at Chicago Med, where he’s now the supervising attending physician.

Both of them have had their ups and downs. Will was the target of a lawsuit in Chicago Med season 1 and had financial problems into the next season as a result, while Jay has been dealing with PTSD and almost lost his badge earlier in Chicago PD as well. We’ve seen some real drama in both Halsteads’ lives through this relationship, but we’ve also seen the power they have as a team.

Will often turns to Jay about suspicious events with his patients, while Jay looks to Will when he needs medical information on a victim. The two of them together make a tough pairing, as strong as any conventional partnership in One Chicago. They’re also just tremendous fun for fans to see together, and we relish all of their shared screen time. Whether it’s good or bad, through thick and thin, they’ll stick together and we’ll stick with them.
