Chicago PD season 9 synopsis offers major Burgess spoiler

It seems Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) might not be out of the woods, after all, at least that’s the vibe we’re picking up on in the newly released synopsis for the Chicago PD season 9 premiere.

In the 2-part season 8 finale event, Burgess was forced to fight for her life after being abducted by a pair of dangerous criminals who shot and left her for dead. After being left for dead, Burgess mustered up the strength to make it to a vehicle parked outside of where she was taken captive and turn on the emergency lights before losing consciousness.

Her quick thinking ultimately played a major role in helping the Intelligence Unit find her as the flashing of the emergency lights was what led Jay (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) to her location. Upon being found by her team members, Burgess was rushed to Med where she underwent emergency surgery.

As the season came to a close, it was teased that Burgess was in stable condition and the expectation was she would make a smooth recovery. However, the synopsis for the season 9 premiere seems to suggest rocky roads are still ahead for Burgess as the season begins.

Is Kim Burgess going to die in the Chicago PD premiere?

According to TVLine, who was the first to release the season 9 synopsis, as Chicago PD season 9 begins, we’ll find Burgess still fighting for her life as the rest of the team makes it their mission to find her kidnapper. Given the tease that Burgess is going to be “fighting for her life” as the season begins, it seems she might not have been as out of the woods as we thought when the season came to an end.

So this leads us back to the big question fans have been asking from the moment the finale first aired back in May: Will Burgess be able to pull through?

Although the season 9 premiere synopsis seems to suggest that Kim will begin the season in a similar place as where we left her in continuing to fight for her life, Burgess does not die in the season 9 premiere.

While NBC has not yet confirmed her character’s fate, Marina Squerciati will be back for season 9 and has been hard at work on the new season. Although Burgess likely has a long recovery ahead of her, fans shouldn’t be concerned about her odds of survival as we fully expect her to make it out alive.
