Halstead is back in new Chicago Med preview and SPOILER isn’t happy
By Cody Schultz
When season 6 of Chicago Med came to a close, things weren’t looking good for Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and his future at Med. After covering for Natalie’s (Torrey DeVitto) actions in compromising the drug trial, Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) was left with no choice but to fire him for his actions.
During most of the offseason, fans have been anxiously waiting to see what the future would hold for Will. While we assumed we’d have to wait until the season premiere to know for certain whether Will was leaving Med, NBC pulled the curtain back a bit earlier than anticipated in teasing Will’s return in the promotional materials leading up to the season 7 premiere.
After gifting fans with their first look at Will’s return via our first-look photos from the premiere, NBC has now provided us with our first sneak peek at Will’s triumphant return to Med.
While most of his colleagues seem happy to have him back in the new One Chicago promo, there is one character, in particular, who is not at all thrilled to see him back in action.
Chicago Med promo teases Halstead’s tension-filled return
Ahead of One Chicago franchise’s return on Sept. 22, NBC has dropped a new promo teasing the upcoming seasons of Chicago Fire, Med and PD. Among the promo’s biggest moments is Will’s return to Med which seems to tee up a potential new adversary for our beloved doctor.
In the brief clip, Goodwin welcomes Will back to the Med team which triggers a generally warm welcome from most present in the ED including Med’s two newest doctors, Dr. Stevie Hammer (Kristen Hager) and Dr. Dylan Scott (Guy Lockard). However, there is one doctor not happy to see Will back: Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber).

Following Goodwin’s annoucement, Dean throws some serious shade Will’s way in commenting that he’s “looking forward to [Will’s] next train wreck.” Ouch!
Clearly Dean isn’t happy about Goodwin’s decision to bring Will back and the moment definitely seems to suggest the two will be butting heads this season. How far might Dean go to make Will’s life in the ED miserable in leveraging his power as interim chief of the ED? Well, we’ll have to tune in this season to find out!
