Chicago PD season 9 premiere synopsis, trailer and photos

The wait for new episodes of Chicago PD is nearly over! After another long summer, Chicago PD is almost upon us with just a few short days away from the start of the new season and the return of One Chicago Wednesdays!

Given how we left things in the season 8 finale, the season 9 premiere promises to bring answers to all of our burning questions while also setting up for the season ahead in laying the groundwork for what’s to come this season.

Ahead of Chicago PD‘s return, we share the season 9 synopsis, trailer, and photos as part of our premiere primer in hopes of helping you get ready for the first episode of the new season!

Chicago PD season 9 premiere synopsis

With the new season picking up right where season 8 ended, it should come as no surprise that the primary focus of the season 9 premiere is the hunt to find answers and bring in the individual responsible for abducting and torturing Burgess (Marina Squerciati). Also not surprising is the fact that the season premiere synopsis puts a large focus on the team focusing their efforts on doing all they can to help Burgess.

Wondering how NBC describes the Chicago PD season 9 premiere? Here is the official synopsis for season 9, episode 1, “Closure,” via NBC:

"“Officer Kim Burgess fights for her life as the team scrambles to find her kidnapper. Dep. Supt. Sam Miller is desperate to find her son’s killer. Voight and Upton deal with the aftermath of their deadly decision. Ruzek struggles with the pressure of the situation.”"

Chicago PD season 9 trailer

This season, NBC seems to be opting for joint One Chicago promos instead of individualized trailers for the new seasons of its One Chicago series. As such, there has not been an official Chicago PD season 9 trailer released ahead of the season premiere; however, we have been gifted with our first looks at the new season via a pair of new One Chicago Wednesday promos.

In the first promo for the new seasons, we see Burgess fighting for her life with an impassioned Voight (Jason Beghe) reminding the team that the only thing that matters is saving her life.

In the follow-up promo, Burgess is once again at the heart of Chicago PD‘s portion of the trailer this time as we see one of Med’s doctors reminding Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) about the extensive injuries she suffered from as an emotional Ruzek presses for answers as to whether Burgess will pull through.

Chicago PD season 9 premiere photos

Although we only get a few brief glimpses of the Chicago PD cast in the two One Chicago promos, NBC has gifted us with a handful of premiere images that offer up our first looks at the new season.

Across the near dozen premiere photos, we get our first look at most of the cast sans Burgess and Ruzek who are MIA in the new premiere images. Judging by the photos, it appears Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller (Nicole Ari Parker) will be joining the team in their hunt for answers as she appears alongside the Intelligence Unit in a handful of images from the premiere.
