In looking ahead to the upcoming ninth season of Chicago PD, there is a lot to look forward to for the show’s beloved characters and it seems fans who have long hoped to learn more about Jay Halstead‘s time in the military have something new to get excited about.

As fans will recall, prior to joining the Intelligence Unit team, Jay served in Afghanistan with the 75th Ranger Regiment deployed to the Korangal Valley. While Jay’s military background is part of what has shaped the character we know and love today, his time in the military is an area the show has never had the chance to truly explore to the fullest.

For several years now, fans have been hoping to learn more about Jay’s time in the military and it looks like we’ll finally be pulling back the curtain with a special episode this season that will focus on his military history.

Chicago PD season 9 to explore Jay Halstead’s military history

In the upcoming ninth season of Chicago PD, NBC’s veteran crime drama will look to provide longtime viewers with answers to many of their burning questions regarding Jay’s military background timed to the arrival of a familiar face from his past.

“We haven’t done a lot about his military background in a while but, in the beginning of the season, there’s a great episode where someone from Jay’s past who he served with in Afghanistan comes back,” actor Jesse Lee Soffer revealed exclusively to One Chicago Center.

Within the episode, which is expected to air early this season, Soffer promises fans will “get a little more specificity and a clearer picture of why Jay doesn’t talk about his time in Afghanistan.”

“The timing of it is really interesting,” Soffer teased, noting the episode was filmed right as everything was going on in Afghanistan with the troops pulling out. And while we’ll have to wait to see just what the writers have planned for the deep dive into Jay’s military background, the one thing that is certain is the episode is sure to be one of the season’s shining moments.
