Colin Donnell may not be a part of the current Chicago Med cast, but he will always be a part of the One Chicago family thanks to his tenure as Dr. Connor Rhodes. The actor brought poise and charm to the role, and these winning traits will continue to serve him well as he’s been cast in the upcoming Peacock crime thriller Irreverent.

What is Colin Donnell’s new show?

The Peacock TV logline for Irreverent describes it as a “fish out of water drama” that revolves around criminal mediator Paulo Keegan (Donnell). Paulo flees the United States after a mediation gone wrong, and is forced the assume the identity of Reverend Mackenzie “Mack” Boyd while hiding out in Clump, Australia. “In order to stay alive”, the logline adds, “Mack must keep the wool over the town’s eyes and play the role of devoted Reverend, while desperately searching for an exit strategy before his past catches up to him.”

Irreverent will be a perfect vehicle for Colin Donnell to shine, especially given his unceremonious exit from Chicago Med in season 5. The way his character departed the series was seen by many fans as a creative misstep, and subsequent episodes struggled to regain their footing after ditching such an essential ED member. The official reason given for Donnell’s departure was “creative differences”, but neither him nor the showrunners have elaborated on this statement.

In addition to Donnell, Irreverent boasts a stellar ensemble cast made up of TV veterans like Kylie Bracknell (Black Is the New White), Briallen Clarke (Doctor Doctor), Tegan Stimson (The Tailings), and PJ Byrne (The Boys) as the real Reverend Mack, who planned to move to Clump after his wife left him. Additional supporting roles will be filled by Ed Oxenbould, Wayne Blair, Russell Dykstra, and Jason Wilder; with the latter playing a suspicious, self-taught marine biologist.

The series is created by Paddy Macrae, who will also serve as chief writer and showrunner. Debbie Lee and writer Andrew Knight will executive produce alongside Macrae, while the rest of the writing staff will be filled out by Darlene Johnson, Andrew Anastasios, and Angela McDonald.

A release date for Irreverent has not yet been announced, but production on the series is slated to begin soon in Queensland, Australia.
