Although Chicago PD has introduced romantic storylines for many of its characters across its run through exploring the personal lives of the team to balance out their professional lives on the job — although the two worlds have frequently blurred into one thanks to romantic relationships between team members — there are a few characters who have long been neglected in the romance department in the eyes of fans.

Chief among them is Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), who fans have long been hoping to see get a romantic storyline on the show.

Last season, it seemed like the show was potentially about to give fans what they had been hoping for with the induction of Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller (Nicole Ari Parker). Fans were quick to pick up on the chemistry between the two characters and have been anxiously waiting to see whether their dynamic could evolve into something more.

Will Voight and Miller get together on Chicago PD?

Unfortunately, It seems sparks won’t be flying between Voight and Miller after all as Chicago PD’s showrunner Rick Eid has shot down rumors of the pair hooking up. In other words, it seems Voight is about to be friend-zoned.

In a recent interview with TVLine, Eid revealed that while the bond between Voight and Miller is indeed incredibly strong, there are no plans for the two to become romantically involved.

"“Voight and Miller have a strong bond, but it isn’t necessarily romantic. They understand each other in a way that’s rare,” Eid revealed. “Because of their jobs, their responsibilities, and their sacrifices, they’re able to connect on a deeper level.”"

Although it seems the relationship between Voight and Miller will remain platonic, fans can at least look forward to many more incredible scenes between the two characters this season.

As the show looks to explore the pair’s different approaches to policing, Eid has teased season 9 will find the pair in “an interesting place” during the first episodes of the season in exploring how the events of last season will, if in any way, change their principles.
