Heading into the 2021 season, one of the biggest burning questions on the minds of One Chicago fans was whether NBC would be able to once again reunite the casts of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago PD for a new crossover event.

The One Chicago crossovers are always must-see events with each crossover in recent years upping the stakes with more heart-pounding action and drama. The events are always a standout moment of the season, which is why fans were so disheartened when NBC was unable to pull off a crossover in the 2020 season due to the pandemic.

In looking ahead to the 2021 season, the hope seemed to be for the franchise to once again bring fans a One Chicago crossover event with Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas teasing that plans were in place for the three series to come together for a crossover early in their new seasons.

Unfortunately, that plan seems to have changed due to unforeseen circumstances.

Will there be a One Chicago crossover in 2021 with Chicago Fire, Med and PD?

Heading into the 2021 season, there were indeed plans to bring together the casts of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago PD for a One Chicago crossover. However, it appears the 2021 One Chicago crossover plans are now on hold making it uncertain whether NBC will be able to pull off a crossover at any point this year.

As Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas revealed to TVLine, due to the Delta variant NBC has had to put the One Chicago crossover plans on hold for now leaving it unclear whether there will be a crossover at any point this season.

"“I feel bad, because we had one planned, and we had it all talked out with the showrunners of the other two shows, and we know what we’re going to do, and it’s enormous… but the Delta variant kind of forced our hand,” Haas revealed"

While plans are currently on hold, it is a positive sign that the creative teams of the three One Chicago shows have already come together to plan things out. It’s also important to note, a crossover for this season hasn’t been entirely ruled out so it’s still possible NBC could pull one off should the conditions change.
