Who plays Paramedic Field Chief Evan Hawkins on Chicago Fire?
By Cody Schultz
If there is one thing Chicago Fire has taught us over the years, it’s that you never know when a new character might enter the mix to shake things up and add yet another layer to the show.
This lesson was on full display in the second hour of season 10, when the writers introduced us to Brett’s (Kara Killmer) new boss via the introduction of Paramedic Field Chief Evan Hawkins in “Head Count.”
In the episode, Brett breaks protocol when she takes a call from Herrmann (David Eigenberg) and responds to a call without going through dispatch. While the decision helped save the life of a young boy, it left Brett in heated water with her new boss who audiences were introduced to after the call when Paramedic Field Chief Evan Hawkins drops by 51 to question Brett about her actions.
While Herrmann ends up taking the fall for Brett in order to prevent her from being reprimanded for breaking ambulance protocol, Chief Hawkins’ introduction seems to suggest we could be seeing more of the character in future episodes. Interestingly, the character is not one whose casting was heavily reported prior to the episode leaving many hungry to know more about the character — primarily, who the actor is tapped to play the role.
Jimmy Nicholas Chicago Fire
The role of Paramedic Field Chief Evan Hawkins is played by actor Jimmy Nicholas, who is still relatively green when it comes to the world of television. While Nicholas has held guest roles on shows such as Instinct, Madam Secretary, and The Good Wife, his role on Chicago Fire stands as his biggest television gig yet.

Although the status of his role on the show remains unclear, it looks like we should be seeing more of Chief Hawkins more as the season progresses which should lead to some exciting new story possibilities.
Considering how his first encounter with Brett unfolded, it’s going to be interesting to see what type of dynamic the characters might develop. Could he end up becoming a new mentor for Brett and a potential new ally, or will he prove to be a major thorn in her side? It seems we’ll have to wait to find out!
