Last week on Chicago PD, Burgess (Marina Squerciati) returned to the job following her brush with death in order to help the Intelligence Unit bring down the individual responsible for the murder of an informant.
Although there was some uncertainty about getting back into the field, Burgess quickly rose to the challenge and managed to use her recent trauma to connect with a witness to crack the case. While it was a big step for Burgess, it’s clear she still has a long way in her recovery as she works through the ordeal.

After putting a heavy focus on Burgess in the first two hours of the season, the third episode of the season will shift the attention onto Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) in an episode which will explore his military background.
In the first promo for the episode, a familiar face from Halstead’s past returns, and his arrival seems to quickly stir up some dark secrets. If the trailer is any indication, it seems the arrival of his former military colleague is going to drag up some skeletons from Halstead’s past in forcing him to talk about a past he’d rather leave behind him.

As teased via this week’s promo, Wednesday’s episode is going to put a large focus on Halstead when his former Army colleague pops up in town. While getting a visit from his former Army colleague is a welcome surprise, the fallout that comes with his arrival sets off an unexpected string of events that all begin when Halstead’s friend is implicated in a crime.

Here’s how NBC officially describes season 10, episode 3:
"Halstead’s past resurfaces when a former Army colleague is implicated in a deadly blast. As the FBI launches an investigation into Roy’s disappearance, Upton feels the pressure of the secret she and Voight are sharing."

Interestingly, while the promo and synopsis seem to put a focus on Halstead, he’s rather MIA in the first batch of images released for the episode. Instead, the first photos from the episode seem to put a focus on Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins), Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), Voight (Jason Beghe) and Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).
