Who plays Sam Miller on Chicago PD?

Sam Miller has become a welcome addition to the Chicago PD family. The tenacious superintendent brought freshness to the precinct starting in season 8, as well as an ironclad commitment to the rules that sometimes put her at odds with the grizzled Hank Voight (Jason Beghe).

Nevertheless, the two officers have learned to get along. So well, in fact, that showrunner Rick Eid had to clarify that there are no plans to initiate a romance between Miller and Voight. Sam Miller is played by Nicole Ari Parker. The actress has been a regular on the big screen since making her screen debut in the 1993 drama Other Women’s Children. She followed it up with juicy supporting roles in the acclaimed films The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love (1995), Boogie Nights (1997), and Remember the Titans (2000). She’s also proven herself to be an adept comedienne in cult classics like Blue Streak (1999) and Black Dynamite (2009).

Parker, who trained with the Washington Ballet Company in her youth, has also found success on the small screen. She played Teri Joseph on the sitcom Soul Food (2000-04), and was nominated for five NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series. She’s also had lengthy recurring roles on acclaimed shows like Empire, Rosewood, and I’m Dying Up Here.

In her personal life, Parker is married to actor (and former Soul Food co-star) Boris Kodjoe. The couple have two children, Nicolas and Sophie.

Miller has plenty of drama to sift through in season 9. The character lost her son in tragic fashion during season 8, and the weight of said loss has caused her to reconsider her by-the-book style. It’s an unexpected development, and one that further tightens the bond between her and Voight.

That said, Miller’s past adherence to the rules could spell trouble for the newly engaged Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Upton (Tracy Spiridakos). She might insist that the couple be separated and sent to different precincts, which would greatly strain her relationship with Voight and the rest of the team.
