Jay Halstead has been an essential piece of the Chicago PD puzzle. He was one of the first PD characters fans met on Chicago Fire, and he’s remained a standout thanks to his quiet charm and no-nonsense approach to crime.

Of course, much of the character’s appeal comes from the man who plays him: Jesse Lee Soffer. The actor has excellent chemistry with his co-stars and a physicality that makes all of his action scenes crackle with intensity. In the case of the latter, there are some fans who may be curious about how tall Soffer is in comparison to the rest of the cast.

Here’s the inside scoop on the actor’s height.

How tall is Jay Halstead on Chicago PD?

Soffer might be a popular TV actor, but there’s actually been debate as to his actual height. Some outlets list him at 5’10”, while others claim he stands at 6’0″. We can’t say for sure which listing is accurate, but we can use the context clues of other Chicago PD actors to establish a better guess.

LaRoyce Hawkins is 6’3″, and Jason Beghe is 5’10”. Soffer is significantly shorter than Hawkins and slightly taller than Beghe, which leads us to believe that his height is somewhere in between. Soffer is also taller than his onscreen love interest, Tracy Spiridakos, who stands at 5’6″.

Soffer has discussed how important physicality is to his portrayal of Halstead. He told DuJour Magazine that he tries to do as much of his own stunts as the coordinators will allow. “I would pretty do anything as long as they let me”, he stated. “If someone was like, ‘We’re doing a car chase, you’re gonna flip a car.’ I would do it.”

The actor also cited this physicality as a way in which he can keep the character feeling fresh and exciting. “I’m always trying to find the character and trying to change the character,” he added. “So the job is always challenging and there’s always a new experience. I think that keeps us on our toes.”
