Did Miranda Rae Mayo leave Chicago Fire?
Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) has been notably absent for most of Chicago Fire season 10. The character has popped up here and there, but for the most part, she’s been reduced to more of a background presence.
This change has not gone unnoticed by fans. Some have questioned whether the decision to have Kidd take a step back is a narrative choice or an indication of behind the scenes developments. There’s even speculation as to whether Kidd’s actress, Miranda Rae Mayo, has plans to leave the show.
Here’s a rundown of Mayo’s involvement with Chicago Fire, and her plans for the future.
What happened to Stella on Chicago Fire?
As of now, there are no plans to have Miranda Rae Mayo leave the show. The actress is merely fulfilling the requirements of the plot, which deem that her character take some time away from Firehouse 51 to focus on her Girls on Fire program. The important of the Girls on Fire program is something that Mayo alluded to during an interview with Hello Magazine.
“I would love to see more Girls on Fire, more of the character Aaliyah and how Stella, Kylie and Aaliyah interact, to see Stella navigate her imposter syndrome, and watch her find her space, find her boundaries”, she stated. “And I trust the writers and they love her, so I trust them that it’ll be fun.”
Mayo also asserted that Kidd’s time away from 51 would be essential to the growth of the character. She wants to see Kidd assert herself as a leader in a different environment, how she deals with challenges when she’s not surrounded by her usual support system.

Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas also spoke on Kidd’s season 10 arc, confirming that the character would stick around. He did, however, hint at plenty of drama involving Kidd and where her career path ultimately leads her. “That’s an ongoing issue”, he told CarterMatt. “She has other things going on in her life… namely, some Girls on Fire related business takes up her time.”
Kidd’s immediate future may be hazy, but fans can rest assured that the character will remain close by. Her engagement to Severide (Taylor Kinney) all but guarantees that she (and actress Miranda Rae Mayo) are going to remain integral to the Chicago Fire family.
