Chicago Fire has finally hit 200 episodes. The firefighter drama has given us episode after episode of memorable drama, and “Two Hundred” was no exception. There were close calls, babies being born, and perhaps most notably, a turning point in the relationship between Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Brett (Kara Killmer).

The couple got together after seasons of will-they-won’t-they speculation, and while they seem to be a perfect match on paper, Casey’s desire to relocate to look after the Darden boys has added several complications. At one point they even consider breaking up.

Be warned that the rest of the post contains detailed spoilers for the 200th episode of Chicago Fire!

Are Casey and Brett still dating on Chicago Fire?

The episode opens quietly, with an excited Brett greeting a visibly worn Casey. She tells him about the success she’s had in solving the ambulance shortage, and Casey responds by dropping the bombshell about him moving. Brett is shaken by the news, and asks whether a move means the end of their relationship. Casey says it doesn’t have to be.

Brett keeps a brave face throughout the episode, knowing that what Casey is doing for the Darden boys is admirable, but it’s clear that she’s saddened by the news. Casey asks Brett to move with him multiple times, but Brett is weary of the proposition, pointing out that she’s uprooted her life for a loved one before and it didn’t work out.

Ultimately, Casey and Brett fall into a situation where they care about each other but neither is willing to budge on their decision. Casey has made up his mind that caring for the Dardens is the most important thing, and Brett sticks by her burgeoning career and her Firehouse 51 friends.

With these decisions in mind, a break up seems destined. Surprisingly, Casey and Brett decide to stay together. They agree to maintain a long-distance relationship, with the implication being that Casey will make periodic visits to Brett and vice versa. There’s a resigned sadness to the situation, but the long distance solution will at least keep these two together while they figure out what the next play is.

Showrunner Derek Haas teased the complications that Brettsy would have to endure in season 10, and he was true to his word. Long distance relationships are notoriously difficult to keep up, and with Casey’s exit from the show, it’ll be interesting to see how long the characters hold on to their love before calling it quits. All we can do is cross our fingers and hope that Casey and Brett make it work.
