Chicago Fire spoilers: What happened in the 200th episode?
This is the big one. Chicago Fire reached its 200th episode, and it didn’t disappoint. There were tons of pivotal storylines, from surprise births to the exit of a character who’s been essential to the show since day one.
The character in question is Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer), who decided the episode prior that he was going to leave Chicago to look after the Darden boys. To nobody’s surprise, Casey’s departure is the central focus of the episode, which is appropriately titled “Two Hundred”.
Here’s a rundown of the key moments you need to know. Be warned that the rest of the post contains detailed spoilers for the 200th episode of Chicago Fire!
What happened on Chicago Fire last night? (October 20th)
The episode wastes no time setting up Casey’s motives. He tells Brett (Kara Killmer) that he has to move to Oregon, and asks that she come with him. She’s taken aback by the news, and throws out the possibility of them splitting up, but the couple ultimately agree to stay together and attempt a long-distance relationship.
Casey has emotionally poignant moments with nearly everyone in the cast, including Gallo (Alberto Rosende), who likens Casey’s decision to be a foster parent that of the loss he felt when his dad died, and Boden (Eamonn Walker), who calls him one of the finest men to ever serve in the 51.
Perhaps the most notable, however, is the moment he shares with Severide (Taylor Kinney). The two men haven’t always agreed, but their bond has been the backbone of the show, and Severide admits that he’s going to miss going on calls with his partner after they put out a church.

Cruz (Joe Minoso) and Chloe (Kristen Gutoskie) finally give birth to their son, in one of the episode’s many emotional highpoints. The entire 51 team is waiting to greet the baby, and when they do, Cruz reveals that the baby’s name is Brian Cruz, but he’s going to call him “Otis” as a tribute to the beloved firefighter who died in season 8.
There are some lighter subplots involving Herrmann (David Eigenberg) and Boden. The former gets dragged into having to serve the underage son of a higher-up, and he has to rely on his quick wits and his connection with Chicago PD‘s Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) to get out of it.
Boden, meanwhile, struggles to adjust to life away from Firehouse 51. Fortunately, his assistant discovers that a change in the city’s fire blueprint enables him to carry out his responsibilities from the comfort of his old office.

In a neat visual cue, Boden is seen moving back into 51 just as Casey is leaving. The latter says his goodbyes to Brett, and spends a quiet moment staring at the firehouse before walking away. Just as he turns his back though, he’s called back by Boden and the rest of the 51 team. Boden states how much he will be missed, and the entire team gathers for a group hug.
It’s a wonderfully heartwarming moment for Casey and the show as a while, and it speaks to how important he is to viewers. In terms of juggling lighter content with heavier stuff, we think that the 200th episode of Chicago Fire is a roaring success.
