We were promised the 200th episode of Chicago Fire would be one for the ages, but nothing could have prepared us for the milestone episode to also serve as Jesse Spencer‘s final episode as Captain Matt Casey.

After 200 episodes, Spencer confirmed his departure as a series regular on the show with his character leaving Chicago behind to move to Oregon so that he could foster Griffin and Ben Darden, the sons of his late friend and fellow firefighter Andy Darden (Corey Sorenson).

It was an emotional hour for fans and fans still are processing the thought of Chicago Fire without Casey around as Captain at 51… which is perhaps what makes it so surprising that NBC has already released an updated version of the season 10 poster.

As fans will recall, Spencer was once again prominently featured front and center on the season 10 poster released by NBC ahead of the season 10 premiere; however, just days after Spencer’s departure, NBC has released an updated season 10 poster which has removed Spencer entirely much to fans’ surprise.

In the original art, Spencer is featured front and center alongside fellow original cast members Taylor Kinney and Eamonn Walker.

Meanwhile, the newly released poster has removed Spencer entirely and instead fills his void by featuring actress Miranda Rae Mayo more prominently on the poster alongside Kinney and Walker.

Could this be a sign that Mayo’s character Stella Kidd is about to take on a larger leadership role at 51 moving forward? We’ll have to wait to see, but in the meantime, it seems she’s secured her spot at the front of the class in taking a far more prevalent spot on the season 10 poster in wake of Spencer’s departure.

Did Casey leave Chicago Fire for good?

Although it might be unsettling to see Jesse Spencer removed from the season 10 key art and it does appear that he’s battled his last fire at 51 as Matt Casey for the time being, there is some good news for fans.

As part of his exit storyline, the door was very much left open for Spencer to return to the show down the line after taking some time off away from the show. While it’s unclear just how long Spencer will be gone, he’s already expressed interest in returning to the series at some point.

So while Matt Casey has left 51 in order to move to Oregon to foster the Darden brothers, we haven’t said goodbye to the character for good. Rather his exit has been framed as an until we meet again type departure, with the door very much left open for Spencer to return as Casey in the future. Whether that be this season or a few seasons removed, we’ll have to wait to see but fans can rest at ease in knowing Casey will return someday.
