Chicago Med has had to undergo some major changes in season 7. Fans saw the departure of April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) and Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto), as well as the extended absence of Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) as a result of his season 6 injuries.

Fortunately, there have been plenty of newcomers to keep the ED interesting. Some of them have ties to the greater One Chicago universe, while others have helped to flesh out the backstories of established characters.

Since these characters have already gone a long way in shaping the current season of Chicago Med, we felt it was an ideal time to breakdown every newcomer and what their role in the ED is!

Who plays Dr. Stevie Hammer in Chicago Med?

Dr. Stevie Hammer is one of the most notable additions to the Chicago Med cast. She’s a strict and effective physician who went to medical school with Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss), and often clashes with him over his unconventional methods.

Hammer is played by actress Kristen Hager. The character has slowly begun to reveal more and more about herself after initially coming off very private. She was previously married to a fellow doctor, and she has a strained relationship with her mother, who’s currently homeless.

Who plays Dr. Dylan Scott in Chicago Med?

Dr. Dylan Scott occupies an interesting space in the One Chicago universe. He’s a former cop who has ties to the Chicago PD cast, but has decided that he can make more of a positive impression on people’s lives by being a doctor. In contrast to Dr. Hammer, Scott is a warm and often tender presence in the ED.

Scott is played by Guy Lockard. There have been hints that Scott knows Dr. Halstead’s brother, Jay (Jesse Lee Soffer), so any future crossover events in the One Chicago universe will likely have Scott at the heart of the plot.

Who plays Dr. Matt Cooper in Chicago Med?

Dr. Cooper is the most overtly villainous character to join Chicago Med. He’s a slick physician who seems to be peddling faulty heart monitors to patients, in the hopes that he will get a monetary kickback from the monitor company. This ruse has led Halstead to go undercover and catch him before he can put any patients in harm’s way.

Dr. Cooper is played by Michael Rady. He’s had the least screen time of all the new characters so far, but he has managed to leave an impression as an amoral and dangerous presence. It’ll be exciting to see where he goes next.

Who plays Dr. Pamela Blake in Chicago Med?

Dr. Pamela Blake is the latest and most unexpected addition to the ED. She made a splash when her daughter was involved in an accident and she elbowed Crockett (Dominic Rains) out of the way so she could operate herself. Things have cooled off since, but Blake and Crockett still have a tense relationship.

Dr. Blake is played by former Suits star Sarah Rafferty. It was initially unclear whether she would be a guest star or a recurring player, but Deadline recently confirmed that the character will stick around throughout season 7.
