Dr. Pamela Blake is here to shake things up. She made a splash when she debuted in the October 20 episode and clashed with Crockett (Dominic Rains) over how to treat her injured daughter. She made it clear that she was not someone to trifle with, and forced Crockett to reconsider his bedside manner.

Initially, it was unclear whether Dr. Blake would be a guest star or a recurring player, but we now know that she will be a vital presence throughout the rest of season 7. She’s sure to bring a fierce and intense energy to the ED.

Here’s a rundown of Dr. Pamela Blake and the actress who plays her.

Sarah Rafferty on Chicago Med season 7

Sarah Rafferty plays Dr. Blake on Chicago Med. The veteran TV actress will be joining a regular cast for the first time since Suits wrapped in 2019. Her character hasn’t had much interaction with the cast outside of Crockett, so it’ll be interesting to see how she fares opposite people like Dr. Stevie Hammer (Kristen Hager) and Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss).

Dr. Blake is an integral part of the showrunners’ push to keep Chicago Med feeling fresh. During an interview with TV Brittany F, showrunner Andrew Schneider said that the revolving door formula gives them more artistic freedom.

"“The cornerstone of our show is how the medical cases affect the personal lives of our doctors and nurses”, he reasoned. “So with new characters and new inter-personal dynamics, we hope the show will continue to be fresh and surprising.”"

Co-showrunner Diane Frolov expanded upon Schneider’s assessment, citing Blake as one of many new characters who will push and challenge the characters we’ve come to know over the years. “We wanted to bring in characters who were different in temperament and backstory from our other doctors”, she added. “So that their arrival would open up new story possibilities.”

It’ll be fascinating to see where Dr. Blake goes, and whether her directness enables her to become a longstanding member of the ED team or forces her exit before the end of the season.
