Is Bonita Friedericy leaving Chicago Med?

Stevie Hammer (Kristen Hager) has had a difficult first season on Chicago Med. The no-nonsense doctor has clashed with Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) on patient treatment, and even run into problems with patients themselves, but the most notable hurdle that she’s had to overcome has been her troubled relationship with her mother Terri (Bonita Friedericy).

Dr. Hammer has tried tirelessly to help Terri maintain her health, but the latter’s resistance to any sort of medicine has added stress to their already strained dynamic. The big question heading into the second half of season 7 is whether Terri is leaving the show.

Did Stevie Hammer’s mother die on Chicago Med?

Friedericy is definitely returning to Chicago Med this season. The character of Terri Hammer has been pivotal to developing Dr. Hammer’s personality and her friendship with Halstead. In the episode “Just As a Snake Sheds Its Skin”, Hammer is forced to search the city for Terri, as she disappeared following her hospital stay.

Dr. Hammer is convinced that Terri will try to purchase drugs to ease the pain of her condition, and fears that it will only amplify her problems. Halstead agrees to help her on her search, and the duo wind up at a dope house where they discover a young girl. They alert authorities and Dr. Hammer breaks down, explaining that she knows what its like to be a young girl in a dangerous situation. She also voices regret for letting her mother go.

Friedericy has appeared in episodes of season 7 thus far, and given the uncertain status of her character, we’re confident that she will be a large part of Hammer’s story headed into the holidays. Terri may even factor into the mid-season finale, which teases some dramatic happenings for Dr. Hammer.

CarterMatt reports that the synopsis for the upcoming season 7 episode 9 is as follows:

"“The outcome of Will’s investigation weighs heavily on his mind as he works with Dylan to save a 4-month-old patient. Stevie and Vanessa both struggle to keep their secrets. Crockett and Blake work with Abrams to save a patient in need of a liver transplant.”"
