It’s been an interesting few weeks for Chicago PD fans, and that might be an understatement.

After eight weeks of uninterrupted new episodes, Chicago PD finally took its first break of the season on Nov. 17 with NBC airing a rerun instead of a new episode. The hope was that season 9 would resume the following week but then NBC opted to air holiday programs instead of a new episode on Nov. 24 which has led many to wonder if the Nov. 10 episode was the show’s fall finale.

While the last episode of Chicago PD definitely felt like a fall finale given the major cliffhanger the episode ended on, the good news is that there is still one new episode of season 9 coming before the calendar turns to 2022.

When does Chicago PD return?

Chicago PD will finally return from its break on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 10/9c on NBC with what will be its ninth episode of season 9 — an episode which will serve as its fall finale before the show heads on break for the rest of 2021.

While Chicago Med and Chicago Fire seem primed to cap off the year with holiday episodes of some sort, the synopsis for Chicago PD‘s fall finale doesn’t seem to hint at any holiday plans not even in the episode’s title.

In the episode, titled “A Way Out,” Voight (Jason Beghe) and Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) must come together to try to figure out a game plan as the FBI begins to close in on them as the Roy Walton investigation comes to a head.

As Voight and Halstead try to figure out a plan, the Intelligence Unit will be called upon to help work the murder of a city bus driver shot by a passenger and a possible abduction connected to the shooting.
