Chicago Fire recently filmed scenes at iconic Chicago destination spot
Chicago Fire has kept a lid on the storyline for the upcoming mid-season finale. There will no doubt be scenes delving into the 51 and its search for a new lieutenant, but recent stills suggest that there will also be a focus on Brett (Kara Killmer) and her long-distance relationship with Casey (Jesse Spencer).
Anthony Lullo, a gaffer and second unit director for Chicago Fire, recently posted photos of Brett at an iconic Chicago location. This isn’t the first time the show has taken advantage of local spots for dramatic impact, but it does mark one of the most notable uses of a location in season 10.
Here’s a rundown of the destination spot and what it could mean for the characters.
Where is the aquarium on Chicago Fire?
The Instagram post by Lullo includes a photo and a video of actress Killmer strumming a ukulele at Shedd Aquarium. The aquarium was opened in 1930 and was, for a long time, the largest indoor facility in the world. Shedd was also the first indoor facility to boast a collection of permanent saltwater fish.
According to Crain’s Chicago Business, Shedd Aquarium surpassed the Field Museum in 2007 to become the most popular tourist attraction in Chicago. It has remained near the top of the list, and has won several local awards including “best exhibit” from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) in 1999, 2001, and 2004.
Shedd Aquarium was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987. It’s been featured in tons of documentary and tourist shows, including Kid Guides (2005), Window to the Sea (2006), the action thriller Dhoom 3 (2013) and the acclaimed drama series The Chi (2018).

The upcoming Chicago Fire episode will be the first time that Shedd has ever appeared in the One Chicago universe. The Instagram post seems to hint at a reflective moment for Brett’s character, especially as she Brettbredeals with the emotional turmoil of maintaining her relationship with Casey.
During an interview with TV Insider, Derek Haas reflected on Brett’s character and the difficulties she faces going ahead. “We’re going to see some after-effects with Brett”, he stated. “It’s going to be hard on Brett going into a long-distance relationship and not knowing what the rules are of a long-distance relationship. All of that will be a big part of what’s going on at the beginning of the season.”
We’re thrilled to see how the Shedd Aquarium factors into the show and whether Brett manages to have an epiphany during her visit.
