Miranda Rae Mayo has been absent from most of Chicago Fire season 10, which led some fans to speculate that the actress may be busy with other ventures. While there were no reports of Mayo being swamped with outside work, it turns out that she has been pulling double-duty outside of the 51.

According to Deadline, Mayo will star in the upcoming black comedy Daddy. The story revolves around a dystopian society where the state has the power to determine who can raise children. Four men are sent to a retreat in the California mountains, where discover no guide waiting for them and are required to each prove they have what it takes to be fathers.

Is Miranda Rae Mayo leaving Chicago Fire?

Mayo’s role in the film is unclear at this time, but it does re-team the actress with her former Chicago Fire co-star, Yuri Sardarov. The latter played beloved firefighter Otis, who perished in a blaze in season 8. The character’s legacy lives on through passionate fans and his onscreen best friend Cruz (Joe Minoso), who named his son Otis in the show’s 200th episode.

Given that Sardarov has not been a part of One Chicago for a couple years, his involvement in the film Daddy has been less noticeable. Conversely, Mayo’s involvement shines a light on somewhat of a mystery for fans.

The absence of her character, Stella Kidd, seemed abnormally long, and even though Kidd had a justifiable reason for being away (she’s been promoting her Girls on Fire group), it did seem strange that a core star would miss so many episodes for a minor subplot.

Mayo’s IMDb page suggests that the actress has even more film work coming down the pipe. She’s one of the performers listed on the upcoming comedy Going Places, which is directed by Max Chernov and stars Ethan Cutkosky.

Fortunately, it looks as though Mayo will be back in One Chicago mode soon. The actress is slated to make her return to Chicago Fire during the mid-season finale on December 8, and all signs point to her character being a prime candidate to take over Casey’s role as 51 lieutenant.

Showrunners have not specified the conditions of her return, but given that the mid-season finale has been teased as a major event, we’re inclined to think that she’ll resume her duties as a main cast member for the rest of season 10.
