Chicago PD has been a mainstay on NBC for nearly a decade. The crime drama has run through a roster of great characters, not to mention iconic moments that have both shocked and dazzled audiences.

Given how long the show has been on the air, there may be those who are wondering how many seasons Chicago PD there have been since its inaugural episode in 2013.

Here’s a rundown of the show’s season count, episode count, and whether its been renewed into the future.

Is Chicago PD cancelled?

Chicago PD is currently in the middle of its ninth season. There have been 173 episodes that have aired, with an average of 22-23 episodes per season. The pilot premiered in 2013, but the series wasn’t officially picked up until January 8, 2014, when it was picked as a mid-season replacement by NBC. The first season offered up 15 episodes, before rising up to the standard 22 episodes in season 2.

The only season that’s fallen below this number (besides the first) is season 8, which only featured 16 episodes. This was largely due to scheduling complications brought about by COVID, and the various concerns surrounding safety standards.

Fans needn’t be concerned about the future of Chicago PD. The crime drama has already been renewed for a tenth season by NBC. Chicago PD co-creator Dick Wolf issued a statement upon the show’s renewal, praising the fanbase and the quality of the talent involved.

“I’m gratified and excited that Universal will remain our home for five more years”, Wolf stated. “This new term deal complements our recently concluded agreement to make Peacock one of the primary destinations for both the Law & Order and Chicago brands, as well as our extraordinary three-year NBC broadcast pickups on all four current series. We are now supercharged to expand our business on new platforms”.
