When does Chicago Med return in 2022?
Chicago Med was back, and now its gone again. The medical drama dropped some bombshells on fans with its latest episode, “Secret Santa Has a Gift for You”, and it remains to be seen how they will affect the careers of certain characters.
Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a while to find out. Chicago Med has resumed its hiatus for the winter season, meaning there are no new episodes slated for 2021.
Here’s a rundown of the broadcast schedule for the rest of Chicago Med season 7.
Why is Chicago Med taking a break?
Pulling shows off the air is standard operating procedure for NBC. Networks often like to do so in an effort to preserve strong ratings for its various dramas. Given the busyness that most viewers experience during the holidays, ratings will inevitably dip in favor of holiday specials and/or reruns of seminal Christmas movies.

As is the case with both Chicago Fire and Chicago PD, the hiatus for Chicago Med is actually shorter than it has been in years past. This is due to the fact that the mid-season finale aired in December, as opposed to the normal November airing. Less time to wait, and less time to stress over the fate of characters like Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson).
When will Chicago Med return in 2022?
Chicago Med is set to return on Wednesday, Jan. 5. The show will air in the 7/6c timeslot, and will be followed by Chicago Fire and Chicago PD. Unfortunately, Chicago Med will resume its hiatus for a couple weeks in 2022.
The second hiatus will be due to the Winter Olympics. NBC will occupy with the timeslots usually reserved for the One Chicago lineup with the Olympic events, which will run throughout the bulk of February. Once Chicago Med returns, however, it will air on a weekly basis for the rest of season 7.
