Chicago Fire writers have no plans to break Brettsey up
Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Brett (Kara Killmer) have had to deal with a lot. The former has left the 51 indefinitely, and the latter, while experiencing professional success, is reeling from the decision to enter a long distance relationship.
There have been hints as to the current state of Brettsey’s romance, and most of them revolve around their uncertain future. Depending on how long Casey plans to be out of state, Brett may have a difficult time maintaining their closeness.
Fortunately, Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas has shed some light on the Brettsey dynamic and what fans can expect of them for the rest of season 10.
Are Casey and Brett still together on Chicago Fire?
During a recent interview with TV Guide, Haas revealed that the couple are indeed “solid” and any issues they face in the immediate future won’t lead to their break up. He also hinted at a possible appearance by Casey before the season finale.
"“[Brett’s] going to go see him at some point in the season. We’re also going to have a – talking about bringing characters back from past seasons, we haven’t seen her half-sister Amelia”, Haas teased. “And with Casey, yeah, things are solid. It’s just complications of a long-distance relationship, but they’re not breaking up anytime soon.”"
In a similar vein, Haas hinted at some lighter material for Brett, given how dramatic her last few subplots have been. “Career-wise, she gets to now I don’t want to say relax, but it is a big obstacle that she overcame” the showrunner asserted. “And we want to see Brett have a little bit more fun than all of the drama that she’s had to deal with this season.”

Given the burgeoning love triangle between Gallo (Alberto Rosende), Violet (Hanako Greensmith) and Chief Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas), we wouldn’t be surprised if Brett takes more of a supporting role in the rest of season 10, save for whatever storylines the writers attempt between her and Casey.
We’re unsure how the couple will keep things fresh despite being so far apart. That said, we’re relieved to know that Brettsey will live on as a couple.
Chicago Fire returns in 2022 on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 9/8c on NBC. Catch up on the season so far on Hulu.
