Is Yaya DaCosta returning to Chicago Med? (Med boss shares major update)
By Cody Schultz
Across the first six seasons of Chicago Med, Yaya DaCosta played a pivotal role as nurse April Sexton — a role she first originated on Chicago Fire before NBC greenlit what would become the third One Chicago drama of the franchise.
April was often at the heart of many of the show’s central storylines with DaCosta never failing to deliver one incredible performance after the next including her emotional arc during season 6’s COVID-19 storyline.
When news broke that DaCosta would be leaving the series, fans were overwhelmed with disappointment, especially since it seemed as though we were about to get the chance to see April embark on an exciting new venture in pursuing the Nurse Practitioner program.
While April has embarked on her journey to becoming a Nurse Practitioner, the journey is unfolding off-screen due to DaCosta’s exit but could we finally get the chance to catch up with April via a return from DaCosta?
Is April coming back to Chicago Med?
At this time, there do not appear to be any plans to bring Yaya DaCosta back as April; however, the Chicago Med showrunners seem incredibly open to the chance to bring her back and there is no bad blood stemming from DaCosta’s departure.
As showrunner Andrew Schneider revealed in a recent interview with TV Insider, “[April’s] healthy, she’s pursuing her degree as a nurse practitioner. So we would certainly entertain bringing her back. Everybody loves Yaya.”

Considering FOX has not yet renewed Our Kind of People, there is a chance the stars could align allowing DaCosta to return to Chicago Med even if just for a guest appearance. There’s definitely plenty of ways the writers could check in on April and we’re certain the fans would welcome any excuse to see DaCosta return.
