Chicago PD spoilers: What to expect in Chicago PD season 9 episode 10

It’s been a long couple of weeks for Chicago PD fans, but after an extended break NBC’s One Chicago dramas are finally returning from their winter break to help NBC kick off the new year in style!

Although season 9’s fall finale put a large focus on Upstead with their impromptu wedding in the closing moments of the finale, it appears the first hour of the season is going to shift its focus to another one of the show’s central couples with a larger spotlight on Burzek.

As Chicago PD returns with its first new episode of 2022, Burgess (Marina Squerciati) attempts to set some boundaries in her relationship with Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger). However, that’s likely to be the least of her worries when someone from Makayla’s past comes forward and jeopardizes the family unit Burgess has been building.

Just what awaits us this Wednesday night? Below we share the promo, synopsis, and photos for episode 10, “Home Safe.”

Despite recent teases of exciting things to come for Burzek in the episodes ahead, it’s looking like the first episode of 2022 is going to find Burgess and Ruzek at odds as Burgess attempts to set some boundaries in hopes of protecting Makayla.

As Burgess notes in the promo for the episode, given the fact that she and Ruzek aren’t together she feels it only right to set some boundaries to help protect Makayla. It’s a reasonable stance given the status of their relationship and Burgess’s desire to protect Makayla from getting hurt should Ruzek meet someone new but one that Ruzek doesn’t seem too happy about.

While the promo for this week’s episode of Chicago PD teases tension between Burgess and Ruzek as the couple looks to set some boundaries, the synopsis for the episode teases another development that could end up bringing the pair closer together.

As teased by the synopsis, someone from Makayla’s past makes an unexpected return which leaves Ruzek and Burgess in a state of shock as they must determine what it could mean for Makayla’s future.

Here’s how NBC officially describes season 9, episode 10:

"The team searches for a missing child in what turns out to be a very complicated case. Burgess and Ruzek are in for a shock when someone from Makayla’s past comes forward."
