Chicago Fire, Med and PD to take extended break (2022 Winter Schedule Update)
By Cody Schultz
NBC’s One Chicago series may have only just returned, but an extended break is fast approaching for Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago PD.
Following the winter premieres on Jan. 5, NBC’s most-watched dramas will be airing a pair of new episodes on Wednesday, Jan. 12 and Jan. 19 before they head on break for what is looking to be yet another extended hiatus.
Although NBC has not yet released the full primetime schedule for January 2022, TVLine is reporting NBC will air One Chicago repeats on Jan. 26 and Feb. 2, followed by coverage of the Winter Olympics from Feb. 4 – Feb. 20. In other words, brace yourself because another break is coming already and this one will be even longer than the holiday break at the end of 2021.
When will Chicago Fire, Med and PD return after the 2022 Olympics?
At this time, NBC has not yet confirmed when Chicago Fire, Med and PD will return from their upcoming break; however, it’s looking like fans will have to wait until late February or early March for One Chicago’s hit series to return after the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Coverage of the 2022 Winter Olympics is set to air on NBC through Feb. 20, 2022, meaning the soonest we could see the One Chicago series return would be Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022.
We saw the network take a similar scheduling approach in 2018 when it last aired Winter Olympic coverage, with its original series returning with new episodes the week after the Olympics wrapped. Of course, it’s possible NBC could hold new episodes until March but at this time it’s looking likely the One Chicago series will return from their extended hiatus as February comes to a close.
