Who is Vanessa’s dad on Chicago Med?

Vanessa Taylor (Asjha Cooper) has been a breath of fresh air since she joined Chicago Med in season 6. She brought enthusiasm and hopefulness to the EU, and meshed wonderfully with the rest of the veteran staff.

One of the biggest mysteries surrounding the character, however, has been Vanessa’s parentage. Her mother has been clearly identified as her coworker Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett), but it remains unclear as to who her father is.

Here’s a rundown of what we know about Vanessa’s family tree and whether or not we’ve already met her father over the course of the show.

Who is Vanessa’s mom on Chicago Med?

Family has been an increasingly vital part of Vanessa’s characterization. During the most recent episode, she treated a patient who was taking weight loss pills supplied to her by her mother. It clearly struck a chord with the doctor, who immediately took steps to remedy the cause of the overdose.

It makes sense, given that she was unaware of who her mom was when she started her residency at the hospital. She put the pieces together in the first leg of season 7 and eventually confirmed to Maggie that she knew. Their ongoing relationship as mother and daughter will continue to develop in interesting ways, but Chicago Med showrunners Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov have also hinted at the effect it could have on the discovery of Vanessa’s biological father.

“Maggie is back in Vanessa’s [life] and vice versa” the former told TV Line. “So, we’re going to keep exploring that. What does it mean? What does it mean in terms of Vanessa’s adopted family?” He went on to tease the introduction of Vanessa’s father later in season 7.

"“And then there’s the question of who is the biological father?” Schneider added. “Does he re-enter the picture in some way? Professionally, we play a little bit of that coming back in [episode] ten about the fallout from that announcement.”"

Neither Schneider nor Frolov dropped any clues as to the identity of Vanessa’s father, which leads us to rule out the possibility that it’s a character we’ve already met over the course of the show. It’s most likely going to be a newcomer who will cause sizable tension for both Vanessa and Maggie when they re-enter the picture.
