Chicago Med season 7 won’t return until late February 2022

Chicago Med has done a great job of balancing out a wide array of characters with compelling arcs throughout season 7. The latest episode, “Show of Force”, shifted the focus to Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) and his relationship with his father, as well as a medical emergency involving Dr. Blake (Sarah Rafferty).

Unfortunately, the medical drama is going back on hiatus for the rest of January 2022. The good news is that once it returns, it will air interrupted for the rest of the season.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of Chicago Med and the show’s upcoming schedule.

When is Chicago Med coming back?

The aforementioned 12th episode aired on January 19, and will serve as the last new episode release of the month. NBC will be instead air reruns of earlier season 7 episodes for the next two weeks, and then the timeslot reserved for the show will be occupied by the Winter Olympics.

While it may be odd to consider the two week gap between Chicago Med and the Winter Olympics, it may have something to do with the production schedule. Chicago Med is the only one of the One Chicago shows to not have delayed filming due to positive COVID tests, but the gap will allow it to stay ahead of the episode rollout.

NBC operated similarly in 2018, which was the last year the network hosted the Winter Olympics. Normally scheduled dramas were taken off the air during the weeks of the Olympics, and returned the following week with all brand new episodes.

There’s been some confusion about how long the One Chicago hiatus would last, and some fans theorized that it could stretch well into March, but promotional clips for the next episode in the series confirmed that it will be back for good on February 23, 2022.

The synopsis for the next episode, titled “Reality Leaves a lot to the Imagination”, has not yet been released, but the clips from the promo suggest that the focus of the episode will be split between Goodwin (S. Empatha Merkerson) and Dr. Lockard (Dylan Scott).
