Has Chicago Fire ever done a Valentine’s Day episode?
Chicago Fire is the longest running series in the One Chicago franchise. It’s also the series with the most romances, whether they be outside of work or play out within the confines of the 51.
Violet (Hanako Greensmith), Brett (Kara Killmer), and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) are all at different points in their love lives, and with Valentine’s Day coming up, fans may be eager to relive some of Chicago Fire’s most romance-based episodes.
Are there any episodes that take place on Valentine’s Day? Here’s what you need to know.
Are there Valentine’s Day episodes on Chicago Fire?
The answer is technically yes, though not in the way one might expect. The season 5 episode “Trading In Scuttlebutt” aired around Valentine’s Day, and was focused on Severide (Taylor Kinney) and his pursuit of Anna (Charlotte Sullivan) but the episode ends on a down note, with Severide realizing that things are going to work out between them.
The episode does have a few nice exchanges between Severide and Kidd, however, as the former seeks out her advice. It’s played straight in the episode, but knowing that the two characters fall in love and eventually get engaged adds a level of romanticism to the episode that wasn’t previously there.
The season 7 episode “It Wasn’t About Hockey” takes place around Valentine’s Day, but the central premise of the show is that Brett is trying to get away from the romance and glitz that comes with the holiday. She decides to take a trip to her Indiana hometown with Kidd and Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh), and the trio wind up aiding a crashed school bus along the way.

There are moments of Valentine’s Day-related hijinks elsewhere, like the season 4 episode where Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund) gets a sexy gift for Casey (Jesse Spencer), but on the whole, the holiday serves as a backdrop for romantic subplots more than it does a time to celebrate.
Truth be told, the most romantic moments in Chicago Fire take place when you least expect them, like the season 2 episode “Rhymes with Stout”, where Dawson and Casey kiss for the first time, or the recent lip lock between Violet and Chief Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas) at the gala.
The unpredictability of these moments are what make the show so exciting to watch, and are what keep us coming back time and time again.
