One Chicago has taken a start-and-stop approach to its various shows this season. There have been COVID delays, holiday reruns, and most recently, a multiple week delay due to the Winter Olympics.

This has made it difficult for fans to keep up with each show on a weekly basis, as they often have to contend with shifting schedules and old episodes. Fortunately, all that is going to chance. Steve Kern, the head of scheduling at NBC, has announced that things will be running smoother once the Olympics come to a close.

Here’s what you need to know about the One Chicago slate for the rest of 2022.

Chicago Fire, Med and PD schedule 2022

Kern told Variety that Chicago Fire, Med and PD will each have 22 episodes by the end of the TV season, and that, barring any unexpected changes, will air without any breaks. Starting February 23, all three shows will air weekly until they reach their respective finales.

The head of scheduling noted that a normal TV season lasts 35 weeks, and that most shows will resort to reruns for a portion of those weeks.

“The season is 35 weeks”, he stated. “So that means there’s 12 or 13 weeks that we have to schedule either repeats or preemptions to get the shows to fit into the season. I’m more than happy to have a preemption that I know is going to do well, which is the Winter Olympics.”

The Winter Olympics will air throughout most of February, and will occupy the timeslots usually held for One Chicago. This is fairly standard practice, and NBC employed a similar scheduling tactic when it hosted the Olympics in 2018.

There were initial plans to stage a crossover event between all three shows, but they fell apart in light of the pandemic. Chicago Med showrunners Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider discussed the crossover during a recent interview with TV Insider, and while they confirmed that there were no major plans in sight, there could be some minor crossovers involving two of the three shows.

They alluded to brief instances of characters from Chicago Fire and PD making guest appearances on Med, which has already occurred at different points this season. We can’t wait to see more!
