Is Brett being replaced on Chicago Fire?
Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) is the paramedic on Chicago Fire. Not only has she been the 51’s star paramedic since her arrival, but her recent attempts to improve the conditions (and the reach) of Chicago paramedics proves that she truly has a passion for helping others.
That being said, some fans think Brett could be stepping away from the job. Chicago Fire recently announced that they have cast actress Caitlin Carver to play a new paramedic character, and the lack of information regarding the character has led to speculation that may be the “new Brett”.
Is it true? Well here’s what we know so far.
Is Kara Killmer taking a break from Chicago Fire?
The announcement of Carver’s casting has been vague in terms of who she will play, only that she will be a paramedic. TV Line, who broke the news, did not specify whether Carver’s newbie will even be working at the 51, so its possible she could be based out of a different firehouse entirely.
There are a couple reasons why Brett is believed to be taking a sojourn from her duties. One is that she might be trying to take time off to go visit Casey (Jesse Spencer), and depending on how long her trip is, she will need someone to assume her paramedic duties.
The other theory is that actress Kara Killmer is pregnant and will be needing to take some off from shooting during the second half of season 10. This is a theory we’ve discussed on the One Chicago Center before, and there is still no evidence to support this being true.

The most likely outcome, based on what Killmer and the showrunners have stated regarding the rest of season 10, is that Brett will be taking more of a supporting role in future episodes, and the workload brought on by her new paramedic program may need more bodies– one of which is the newcomer played by Carver.
Of course, the thrill of Chicago Fire is in seeing how the writers and producers constantly thwart our expectations, so we will have to wait and see what the truth really is.
