What happened to Katie Nolan on Chicago Fire?
Katie Nolan (Brittany Curran) has played a significant role in the lives of the Chicago Fire team. She’s the half-sister of Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) was the girlfriend of Otis (Yuri Sardarov) for a brief time, leading to some all time emotional moments for the latter.
Given this specialized place in Fire history, some fans may be wondering what happened to the character, and whether she will return to the Windy City at some point in the future.
Here’s what we know about Katie Nolan and her fate on Chicago Fire.
Did Katie Nolan die on Chicago Fire?
Katie was introduced in the season 2 episode “A Power Move”. Her mother remarried when she was a child, and so we come to learn that she rekindling her relationship with her father, Benny Severide (Treat Williams), as the show gets underway. Severide thinks his dad is having an affair because he sees the two hugging, and is shocked to find out that he has a half-sibling he never knew about.
Despite this rocky start, Katie and Severide get close and develop a strong bond as siblings. It all takes a turn for the worse, however, when Katie is kidnapped by a gangster who has beef with her brother in the episode “Tonight’s the Night”. A frantic Severide goes on the hunt looking for Katie, and though she’s found alive a few days later, she’s badly beaten.
Katie’s traumatic experience leads to her severing most of her ties at Firehouse 51, including her romance with Otis, whom she previously bonded with due to their love of the game Catan. She leaves the show, only to return in the season 7 episode to pay respects to her late father.

There was some distance with Severide once again, but the funeral proves to be a healing experience, as Katie meets Severide’s girlfriend and catches a glimpse of her brother’s often bottled-up feelings when he gives the eulogy.
Katie currently resides in New York, where she works a high-level restaurant job. It’s unclear whether she will return in future episodes, but if she ever were to do so, than the upcoming wedding between Severide and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) would be the perfect excuse.
