Is Maggie leaving Chicago Med?

Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) is, for many, the heart of Chicago Med. She’s always on hand to support her fellow co-workers, and she gracefully deals with the struggles and setbacks that get thrown her way.

It’s hard to think of the show without her, and yet, that’s precisely what fans are doing. After the release of the new Chicago Med episode, “Reality Leaves a Lot to the Imagination”, fans began to look into Maggie’s story and question whether she will be leaving the show.

Here’s what you need to know about the character’s future.

Is Marlyne Barrett leaving Chicago Med?

Maggie has had some interesting subplots throughout season 7. While she largely took a backseat during the sting operation with Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss), she has run into some issues working alongside her biological daughter, Vanessa Taylor (Asjha Cooper).

There’s even been some speculation that the show would delve into the backstory of Vanessa’s biological father, though there’s yet to be any information on him or who he may be within the larger One Chicago universe.

The bottom line, however, is that Maggie isn’t leaving Chicago Med. There’s been some theorizing about Marlyne Barrett being pregnant, and being forced to take time away from the show to give birth, but the actress has said nothing of a pregnancy.

Furthermore, the show has not resorted to filming Maggie’s scenes with her sitting down or being blocked off at the waist, which is usually a giveaway of an actress trying to hide their pregnancy on the screen.

Chicago Med has already lost two major characters in the past season, Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Sexton (Yaya DaCosta), so we’d be surprised to see the departure of yet another core member. Even if its only for a little bit. The only real hints at a potential absence from the show would be if Maggie started to develop a subplot that would take her away from the hospital, and the writers have yet to put any such subplot in motion.

We will keep our ears and eyes peeled, but as far as we know, Maggie is here to stay.
