Max Gail is a TV veteran. He played Det. Stan ‘Wojo’ Wojciehowicz on the classic sitcom Barney Miller, and he recently played Mike Corbin on General Hospital. It’s impossible to have watched television in the last several decades and not have come across his face at one point.

Given his extensive resume, it only makes sense Gail would become part of the One Chicago family. His role may have been brief, but his single episode stint on Chicago Med proved to be a season 7 standout.

What happened to Ellis Turner on Chicago Med?

Gail plays a man named Ellis Turner. He’s a man who’s had to rely on an iron lung for most of his adult life, yet has managed to run a successful financial planning service from his bed. Sadly, his health has deteriorated to such an extent that Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) is unsure how to approach treatment.

Gail is battling a thyroid condition, and Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) offers to help set him up for a retirement account in the event that his health worsens. Despite the impending possibility of death, Turner manages to keep a positive outlook on things.

"“We all live on a razor’s edge”, the character explains. “Everybody. Just some of us know it more than others. In a way, we’re the lucky ones. We have the good sense to cherish every moment”."

Dr. Halstead and Maggie decide to run some tests on Turner, and the prolonged wait for results leads to some of the most suspenseful moments in the episode. Thankfully, the tests come back negative, and Turner is good to go.

While we’re unlikely to see Gail on Chicago Med again, the actor is busier than ever. He’s coming off two Daytime Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actor in 2019 and 2021 (for General Hospital) and he recently appeared in the thriller series Blackout opposite Oscar winner Rami Malek.
