“Blood Relation” was an emotionally fraught episode of Chicago PD. Burgess (Marina Squierciati) was forced to defend herself as a parent in court, and while she ultimately maintained custody, the celebration was short-lived.

Burgess and Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) returned from court to discover that a babysitter has been attacked and Burgess’ daughter Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams) has been kidnapped. The episode ended on that horrifying note, which will no doubt set up the story of the next episode.

Who could have kidnapped Makayla and why? Here are some possible culprits…

Who took Makayla on Chicago PD?

The most likely candidate for Makayla’s kidnapper is Makayla’s biological uncle, Theo (Derek Webster). While Theo did seem to be an upstanding citizen in court, he did serve prison time and has exhibited some odd behavior (namely, approaching Makayla at her school).

It could be that Theo attempted to gain custody of Makayla the legal way, but resorted to illegal means when he realized that he wasn’t going to win the case. Granted, its a big leap, and given the violence that was incurred on Makayla’s babysitter, the kidnapper looks to be a ruthless individual.

Gabby would have known not to let any obviously threatening individuals near Makayla, and its a short list of people who would have been able to convince her to put her guard down. A short list that would likely feature biological family near the top.

There’s always the possibility that Makayla’s kidnapping could have been the result of an ex-con from Burgess’ past, or someone she put away in a previous season. The evidence is vague enough for this direction to work, but it lacks the familial and dramatic tension that would arise if it in fact were Theo.

Squierciati told TV Insider that her character has continued to struggle with recovery after she nearly died in the season 9 opener, and the stress of having her daughter kidnapped is sure to only add to that stress.

It’ll be utterly rewarding to see how Burgess perseveres and manages to get Makayla back, and bring whoever’s responsible to justice.
