Law & Order has made quite a splash in 2022. The long-standing procedural drama was the first Dick Wolf shows to really captivate audiences, and now things have come full circle with a highly anticipated reboot.

Law & Order was initially cancelled in 2010, which is well before any of the One Chicago aired. Now that both shows are active, however, the big question on everybody’s mind is whether we will get to see a crossover between them.

Here’s what we know about the plans of these two franchises.

Is Law & Order set in the same universe as One Chicago?

As One Chicago fans may already know, crossovers have been hard to come by. Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas said that there were talks of a three-part crossover during the current season, but that COVID and scheduling complications led to it being delayed.

Thankfully, there have still been smaller crossover moments, like Chicago Med‘s Dr. Scott (Guy Lockard) appearing on an episode of Chicago PD, and the latter’s Trudy (Amy Morton) dropping by for a second on Chicago Fire. Med showrunners have also confirmed that fans will be treated to a Halstead brothers reunion in the near future.

All that said, Law & Order showrunner Rick Eid is confident there will be a crossover sooner than later. Eid, who previously worked as a producer on Chicago PD, told Deadline that the success of the crossover events on other Dick Wolf shows is definitely in his mind as he plots out the season.

"“I think crossovers have been very successful in the Dick Wolf universe, in the Chicago universe and FBI universe”, he noted. “They are a fan favorite. So there’s a chance there will be a three part or a two part Law & Order crossover somewhere along the way. So anything is possible in this universe.”"

A crossover with Chicago Med will be particularly interesting, given that Goodwin is played by the same actress, S. Epatha Merkerson, who played Anita Van Buren on 17 seasons of Law & Order. There was even some debate as to whether Merkerson would take time off from Med to reprise her Law & Order character, but she opted to focus on the former.

Regardless of how Eid and the rest of the showrunners handle the specifics, we can’t wait to see what crossover excitement is in store!
