Chicago Med cast 2022: Who’s leaving the show?
Chicago Med has had a transitional season. Fans have had to watch long time favorites like Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) leave the show, and newcomers like Drs. Hammer (Kristen Hager) and Scott (Guy Lockard) take up their mantle.
Given the uncertain futures of certain characters, coupled with the subplots that have been made to accommodate Dr. Choi (Brian Tee), there are plenty of people who are curious about the current state of the Chicago Med cast.
Here’s what you need to know about the cast for the rest of 2022.
Is someone leaving Chicago Med?
Dr. Hammer has actually been one of the most discussed when it comes to character who might leave the show. She moved to Chicago to look after her estranged mother Terri (Bonita Friedericy), and the tension between them has made up most of the doctor’s subplots. In the episode “All the Good Things That Could Have Been”, Hammer’s mother finally agrees to get medical attention and get off the streets.
Hammer is thrilled by this discovery, and the resentment that initially drove her relationship with her mother melted away. Hammer’s mother even gave her blessing if the doctor wanted to move back to Michigan. Of course, the words “move back to Michigan” have hung over Dr. Hammer ever since, as she’s unsure about what to do.
There’s been no evidence to suggest that Dr. Hammer will leave the show. The actress who plays her, Kristen Hager, recently announced that she’s pregnant, but it’s likely that the show will just find creative ways of disguising her pregnancy onscreen.

There’s also the matter of romance. Dr. Hammer has been building up a charming rapport with Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) over the course of the season, and a relationship between them has been teased since the premiere. It makes sense, given that Hammer took over the role occupied by Dr. Halstead’s previous love interest, Dr. Manning.
The other question mark cast member has been Dr. Choi, who’s been in-and-out in terms of his appearances. He missed large chunks of the season’s first half, and his return was quickly undone by a flared-up injury. Choi’s actor, Brian Tee, has been busy working on the Amazon series Expats, but both he and the showrunners have confirmed that he will be back before the finale.
In short, no cast members have plans to leave the show, and even if some of them are missing in action for a brief while, they will return and resume their leading role status.
