Dr. Stevie Hammer has become a core member of the Chicago Med family. She’s developed a close relationship with Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss), and her complicated dynamic with her mom (Bonita Friedericy) has driven several of the most interesting season 7 episodes.

The actress who plays Hammer, Kristen Hager, recently announced that she’s pregnant on social media, and the announcement has led several fans to question whether she will be missing time on the show.

Here’s what you need to know about Hager and her future with the show.

Is Kristen Hager leaving Chicago Med?

Hager uploaded Instagram photos of herself last week, and other Med cast members like Sarah Rafferty responded by hearting the post. The actress has not commented on her status regarding the show, which more than likely means that she will continue to appear for as long as she is able.

This isn’t the first time One Chicago has had to contend with a pregnancy. Marina Squerciati had to leave Chicago PD for a brief time to give birth in 2017, and her absence was explained as part of a larger storyline.

As was previously stated on the site, there have been no officially stated plans to take Hager or Hammer out of the equation, and standard operating procedure for shows is just to shoot around the baby bump of the actress as it becomes more pronounced. At most, she’s liable to miss only a few episodes.

Fans theorized about Hammer’s exit well before Hager revealed she was pregnant. The exchange she had with her mother led to her considering a move out of Chicago, despite having only worked at the ED for a little over half a season. It definitely felt like the writers were hinting at something, even if it was to rile up the fans and spark their desire to see the character stay.

That being said, the creative team has put a lot into the Hammer character so far, and writing her off for good would seem like a major waste of time. This is especially true with regards to Hammer and Halstead, who may be inching towards a romance at some point in the future.

Regardless of where Hammer’s story arc goes, we’re confident that the character will stick around in the long term.
