Alissa “Jellybean” Martin led a troubled life. She ran away from home and ended up working as a CI for Dawson (Jon Seda) in the first season of Chicago PD. She appeared in only a few episodes, yet cast a large shadow over the show and its sibling franchise, Chicago Fire.

So who played Jellybean? Why does the character look so familiar to One Chicago fans despite not being large presence? Well, it’s because the actress who plays her went on to play another part in Chicago Fire, and she kept her appearance, tellingly, identical.

Here’s what you need to know about Jellybean and her offscreen counterpart.

Who did Dora Madison Burge play on Chicago PD?

Jellybean is played by Dora Madison Burge. She lent a spunk and a likability to the character in spite of her limited screen time, and One Chicago producers took notice. While Jellybean was relegated to the background, Chicago Fire recast Burge as Jellybean’s twin sister, Jessica “Chili” Chilton.

Chili was featured heavily throughout the third season of Fire, and was even promoted to regular by season 4, but a traumatic event in the character’s life led to her crumbling and abusing alcohol. The event in question was Jellybean’s death. The CI’s body is found in the Chicago Fire episode “All Hard Parts”, and the delivery of her effects later in the story cause Chili to break down.

It’s a testament to Burge’s acting ability that Jellybean and Chili can feel like such different people. The former is more street smart and cunning, while the latter is a bit more innocent and dedicated to helping people. We never get a chance to see them interact (logistically, this would have been a very difficult feat), but we do get the sense that they cared for and loved each other.

Jellybean’s death in Chicago Fire season 4 is the last we hear of her. There’s a passing mention of Chili in the episode “Bad for the Soul”, but it’s merely to point out that she hasn’t been returning the calls of former co-worker Jimmy Borrelli (Steven R. McQueen). As it stands, it looks like the stories of both Jellybean and Chili are complete in the One Chicago universe.
