Violet (Hanako Greensmith) tried to warn him. She told Chief Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas) that starting a Chicago Fire romance could be potentially disastrous for their careers, but the chief insisted that everything would be fine.

Well, based on the end of the episode “Hot and Fast”, things may not be fine. Hawkins filled in for Brett (Kara Killmer) during an ambulance run with Violet, and someone reported that the pair were kissing on the job.

Brass is now waiting to talk to Hawkins about his relationship with Violet, and the repercussions it could have for the character are massive. Here’s what we know.

Are Violet and Chief Hawkins going to break up?

Hawkins is an expendable character, plain and simple. He’s not a main cast member, and unlike Violet, he’s not been made familiar to audiences over the course of multiple seasons. He’s new and given that he is the superior officer in the Violet dynamic, he’s going to be the one punished.

Ideally, the character would be able to apologize for his behavior and promise no such PDA will happen again, but his failure to report his relationship with Violet puts him at a disadvantage. It also looks bad to be exhibiting that level of PDA while they’re supposed to be helping people and staying alert.

Hawkins has proven himself to be a standup guy, and most of the 51 seems to like him, but there’s one crucial exception: Gallo (Alberto Rosende). Violet’s jilted ex has his targets set on damaging Hawkins’ credibility, and “Hot and Fast” implies that Gallo was the one who reported their PDA in the first place. He was one of the few people aware of Hawkins filling in for Brett, and the only one who would benefit from the chief getting in trouble.

If Hawkins does in fact get in trouble, or fired, then it would do irreparable damage to Violet and Gallo’s friendship. While things have been strained recently, a betrayal of that magnitude would surely set them up to be enemies for the foreseeable future. Hopefully we get to find out what happens by the season 10 finale.
