The crux of Chicago Fire has always been Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Casey (Jesse Spencer). The former is no-nonsense and intimidating, the latter is friendly and patient. They both have grown tremendously over the course of the show, but its their differences as much as their similarities that make them such endearing friends.

As the season 10 finale approaches, and Severide’s wedding ramps up, fans can’t help but reflect on the bond between Severide and Casey, and how important it is that the latter will be the best man.

Here’s what you need to know about the current state of the Severide and Casey friendship.

Is Casey coming back to Chicago Fire?

Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas told CinemaBlend that the season finale will give fans a chance to cherish the bond between the two main characters at least one more time. He also addressed some of the questions fans have had, with regards to their dynamic in the present day.

"“Severide and Casey are great. There was never a question”, Haas assured. “I think with two guys who have been in the trenches as long as they have together and have just been forged in fire, it doesn’t matter what the distance is for those two guys. Or how long it would take. I think the two of them, if it was six years apart, you’d walk in and have the same conversation that you were having when you left.”"

The maintained bond between Severide and Casey would be nowhere near as convincing were it not for actor Jesse Spencer agreeing to return to the show for the finale. It’s a decision that Haas was quick to praise, as Spencer felt it was important to reassure fans that Casey is still a part of the One Chicago world.

"“One of many things really great about Jesse Spencer, is he understood that Casey made a promise to Severide to be his best man and Casey is a man of his word”, the showrunner opined. “And Jesse got that as well as we did that that was going to be important to him.”"

It’ll be delightful to see Severide and Casey pick up where they left off, despite their heartwarming farewell in the 200th episode. Seeing these two together is always a treat, and based on Spencer’s close relationship with the cast and crew, hopefully it’s something we can hopefully see more of in the future.
