Is Dr. Pamela Blake leaving Chicago Med?
Dr. Pamela Blake (Sarah Rafferty) has been one of the most notable additions to Chicago Med season 7. She’s not only brought bucket loads of personality and expertise to the hospital, but her dynamic with Crockett (Dominic Rains) has led to some of the most quietly interesting moments of the season.
The character returned in “End of the Day, Anything Can Happen” after missing a few episodes, but the surgery she was tasked with handling was not the big, triumphant return we expected. Instead, the emergency raised questions about Blake’s future at the hospital, and whether she might be axed before the finale.
Here’s what you need to know about Dr. Blake.
What’s wrong with Blake’s hands on Chicago Med?
In the aforementioned episode, Blake and Crockett are given the unenviable task of making a judgement call on a liver transplant. A woman is desperate to save her grandson, despite her barely meeting the parameters for a proper donor. Blake ultimately decided to perform the surgery, but complications arose.
The doctor had a difficult time securing a clip inside of the woman, and when it slipped, Crockett was forced to open her back up and repair the damage before it became irreparable. While it just seemed as though Blake made a mistake, she later reveals to Crockett that the cause of the slip is far worse.
“My hand at rest [is] rock steady”, she tells him. “But when I pinch my fingers together… there’s something wrong with my hand, Crockett. There’s something really wrong.” Crockett consoles her, but it’s clear that there’s going to be some major problems for the character moving forward. Dr. Blake’s hands are her living and her passion, and if they continue to waver, then she can no longer practice as a surgeon.

This development is a huge surprise, given that Med has already had to part ways with multiple characters in season 7. The show has already given the boot to Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and her replacement, Dr. Stevie Hammer (Kristen Hager), so the possibility of losing another female character is a daunting one.
A departure of Blake’s magnitude would certainly add drama to a season finale, which is right around the corner, but we hope that she’s able to work through her physical ailment and find a way to stick around.
Neither the showrunners nor the actress who plays Blake have spoken on the possibility of her exit, but the closer we get to the finale the more we will learn about the character’s fate. As of right now, things aren’t looking good.
