Chicago Fire: Will Stellaride call off their wedding?

It’s all led up to this. Stella (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Severide (Taylor Kinney) have been circling the idea of marriage for over a year, and the promos for the season 10 finale suggests that it’s finally going to happen. But will Chicago Fire pull the rug out from under fans?

Things have not been going smoothly between the couple as of late, and the differences in their personalities, as well as their approaches to work, have never been more obvious. This has some fans questioning whether they decide against tying the knot at the last minute.

Here’s what you need to know.

Did Severide and Kidd get married?

It’s clear from promotional stills that a wedding is planned and staged. We’ve seen photos of Stella and Severide in their wedding attire, as well as the return of Casey (Jesse Spencer), who agrees to be Severide’s best man. Of course, attending a wedding is different than going through with one.

Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas has made it clear that things don’t go according to plan on the big day. In fact, he went as far say that things may have been “pre-thwarted” by events that we’ve already witnessed.

"The wedding isn’t going to go exactly as planned”, Haas told Cinemablend. “So whatever plans that they might have had pre-wedding are thwarted.”"

There’s been additional comments made about the “cliffhanger” mentality of the finale, and how fans will either be thrilled or throwing things at their television in protest. Haas has made it clear that the direction the writers decided to take may not please everyone, and we can’t think of a more polarizing storyline to tamper with than the Stellaride wedding.

To be fair, calling off the wedding would not be without precedents. Stella and Severide have been clashing all season, from the former’s mishandling of the Girls on Fire tour, to the work challenges of both of them wanting to have Gallo (Alberto Rosende) on their team.

In a more hopeful light, it may be possible that one or both of the characters get cold feet, leading to a cliffhanger ending in which the fate of their marriage ceremony is left undecided. This would allow fans to speculate as to Stella and Severide’s decision without completely removing the possibility that they live happily ever after.
